JAHS Earns AP® Award

Congratulations JAHS! Our high school recently earned the College Board AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for the amount of female representation in our AP Computer Science classes. Out of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, 818 achieved this important distinction during the 2018–2019 school year. And JAHS was one of only 36 to be recognized for closing the gender gap in both AP computer science courses.

“We’re proud to see the creativity, commitment, and enthusiasm our female students have demonstrated in their study of computer science,” said Principal Ray Kelly. “STEM education plays a critical role in fostering a lifelong relationship with learning. Kudos to instructor Stefanie Morrison for being a driving force behind this.”

A 2014 Google study found that women are more likely to pursue computer science if they are given the opportunity to explore it in high school. Read the study and learn more about your role in encouraging girls to pursue STEM degrees.
