Health Services

We at Johnsonburg Area School District are fully committed to our students’ health. Our health services staff looks after each student’s physical and mental well-being while on our campus.

Administration of Medication

Certain health problems require that students take medication during school hours. Medication must be kept in the health office at all times.

  • Medication must be in its original, properly labeled container. Prescription medication must have the pharmacy label, and a doctor's order with signature to administer the medication at school is needed.
  • A signed consent form giving specific directions for use must accompany medication from the parent.

Immunization Information

We will notify parents by mail if your continuing student needs additional immunizations before the new school year. State law requires students to complete all required immunizations before school starts. Students who cannot provide proof of required immunizations will not be allowed to attend school or ride the bus on the first day of classes. Please submit immunization updates to the school office.

Students with Severe Allergies

The School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act 195 allows trained school personnel to administer epinephrine via an auto-injector (EpiPen) to a student believed to be having an anaphylactic reaction. Mylan pharmaceuticals has provided our district with EpiPens for this use, though students with a prescription for epinephrine should continue to provide their own supply. Per Pennsylvania law, parents may exempt their child from the administration of emergency epinephrine. Simply contact the school nurse to sign the opt-out form.

With parent permission, students with severe allergies may carry and self-administer an inhaler or EpiPen that has the proper labeling. Please check with the school office to complete an Individual Health Plan for your child. We encourage students to report to an adult or the school nurse after using the EpiPen.
